BADENWEILER , a See also:

health resort and watering See also:place of the See also:grand-duchy of See also:Baden, See also:Germany, 28 M. N. by E. by See also:rail from See also:Basel, at the western edge of the See also:Black See also:Forest. It is sheltered by the Blauen (3820 ft.) and the See also:climate is excellent. Its new See also:parish (Evangelical) See also:church (1897) is built at the See also:foot of the r 1th-See also:century See also:castle which belonged to the margraves of Baden, and was destroyed by the See also:French during the See also:wars of See also:Louis XV. The place is visited by 5000 See also:people annually, partly for its warm See also:mineral springs (70° F.), partly for its whey cure, and partly on See also:account of its equable dimate and picturesque surroundings. There are a Kurhaus, built in 1853, and a See also:park of 15 acres; also a grand-ducal castle, refitted in 1887-1888. In 1784 well-preserved See also:Roman See also:baths were discovered here. The permanent See also:population is about 600.
