BALRAMPUR , a See also:town of See also:British See also:India near the See also:river Rapti, 28 m. from See also:Gonda, in the Gonda See also:district of the See also:United Provinces. Pop. (1901) 16,723. It gives its name to one of the largest talukdari estates in the See also:province. The See also:raja, See also:Sir Drigbijai Singh K.C.S.I., was conspicuously loyal during the See also:Mutiny, and was rewarded with accessions of territory and hereditary privileges. His See also:death in 1882 gave rise to prolonged litigation and the See also:estate was thrown into See also:chancery. The income is estimated at £120,000, paying a See also:revenue of £46,000. Numerous See also:schools and hospitals are supported. Balrampur contains a large See also:palace, a handsome See also:modern See also:temple and an Anglo-See also:vernacular school.
