BAUAN (or BAUN) , a See also:town of the See also:province of See also:Batangas, Luzon, Philippine Islands, at the See also:head of Batangas See also:Bay, about 54 M. S. of See also:Manila. Pop. (1903) 39,094. A railway to connect the town with Manila was under construction in 1908. Bauan has a See also:fine See also:church and is known as a See also:market for " sinamay " or See also:hemp See also:cloth, the hemp and See also:cotton being imported and dyed and See also:woven by the See also:women in their homes. See also:Palm-fibre mats and hats, fans, See also:bamboo baskets and cotton See also:fish-nets are woven here. There is excellent fishing in the bay. Hogs and horses are raised for the Manila market. The surrounding See also:country is fertile and grows cacao, See also:indigo, oranges, See also:sugar-See also:cane, See also:corn and See also:rice. The See also:language is Tagalog.
