In old days it was the See also:fief of the de See also:Lannoy See also:family, and the See also:present proprietor is the See also:bearer of a name not less well known in Belgian See also:history, the See also:count de Berlaymont. The old See also:castle of the de Lannoys exists, and might easily be restored, but its See also:condition is now neglected and dilapidated. In 1798 the See also:people of Clervaux specially distinguished themselves against the See also:French in an See also:attempt to resist the institution of the See also:conscription. The survivors of what was called the Kloppel-krieg (the " cudgel See also:war ") were shot, and a See also:fine See also:monument commemorates the heroism of the men of Clervaux.
