He entered the See also:household of the See also:duke de See also:Albuquerque, and after some years of service in the See also:army received the See also:order of See also:Santiago in 1648. He was a favourite of See also:Philip IV., who is reported to have collaborated with him; this rumour is not confirmed, but there is ample See also:proof of Coello's collaboration with See also:Calderon, Rojas Zorrilla, See also:Solis and Velez de See also:Guevara, the most distinguished dramatists of the See also:age. The best of his See also:original plays, Los Empenos de leis horas, has been wrongly ascribed to Calderon; it was adapted by See also:Samuel See also:Tuke, under the See also:title of The Adventures of five See also:Hours, and was described by See also:Pepys as See also:superior to Othello. It is an excellent example of stagecraft and animated See also:dialogue. Coello died on the loth of See also:October 1652, shortly after his nomination to a See also:post in the household of Philip IV.
