ELMALI (" See also:apple-See also:town ") , a small town of See also:Asia See also:Minor in the vilayet of See also:Konia, the See also:present administrative centre of the See also:ancient See also:Lycia, but not itself corresponding to any known ancient See also:city. It lies about 25 M. inland, at the See also:head of a See also:long upland valley (5000 ft.) inhabited by See also:direct descendants of the ancient Lycians, who have preserved a distinctive facial type, noticeable at once in the town See also:population. There are about fifty See also:Greek families, the See also:rest of the population (4000) being Moslem. The See also:district is agricultural and has no manufactures of importance.
