Among its antiquities are the remains of an See also:abbey of the 8th See also:century, which has been rebuilt as a factory for the manufacture of See also:anise, an See also:industry connected with the town as See also:early as the 17th century. There is also a See also:church of the 13th and 15th centuries, containing carved stalls (15th century) and a See also:fine See also:rood-See also:screen (early 16th century). A Dominican See also:convent, some old houses and See also:ancient gateways are also of See also:interest. About 3 M. See also:north-See also:west of Flavigny rises Mont Auxois, the probable site of the ancient See also:Alesia, where See also:Caesar in A.D. 52 defeated the Gallic chieftain Vercingetorix, to whom a statue has been erected on the See also:summit of the height. Numerous remains of the Gallo-See also:Roman See also:period have been discovered on the See also:hill.
