GIVORS , a manufacturing See also:

town of See also:south-eastern See also:France, in the See also:department of See also:Rhone, on the railway between See also:Lyons and St See also:Etienne, 14 M. S. of See also:Lyon. Pop. (1906) 11,444. It is situated on the right See also:bank of the Rhone, here crossed by a suspension See also:bridge, at its confluence with the Gier and the See also:canal of Givors, which starts at See also:Grand Croix on the Gier, some 13 M. distant. The See also:chief See also:industries are See also:metal-working, See also:engineering-construction and See also:glass-working. There are See also:coal mines in the vicinity. On the See also:hill overlooking the town are the ruins of the See also:chateau of St Gerald and of the See also:convent of St Ferreol, remains of the old town destroyed in 1594.
