GIVET , a See also:town of See also:northern See also:France, in the See also:department of See also:Ardennes, 40 M. N. by E. of See also:Mezieres on the Eastern railway between the town and See also:Namur. Pop. (1906) town, 5110; See also:commune, 7468. Givet lies on the See also:Meuse about 1 m. from the Belgian frontier, and was formerly a fortress of considerable importance. It is divided into three portions--the citadel called See also:Charlemont and See also:Grand Givet on the See also:left See also:bank of the See also:river, and on the opposite bank See also:Petit Givet, connected with Grand Givet by a See also:- STONE
