GUALEGUAY , a flourishing See also:town and See also:river See also:port of the See also:province of Entre Rios, See also:Argentine See also:Republic, on the Gualeguay river, 32 &. above its confluence with the Ibicuy See also:branch of the See also:Parana, and about 120 M. N.N.W. of Buenos Aires. Pop. (1895) 7810. The Gualeguay is the largest of the Entre Rios See also:rivers, traversing almost the whole length of the province from N. to S., but it is of but slight service in the transportation of produce except the few See also:miles below Gualeguay, whose port, known as Puerto See also:Ruiz, is 7 M. See also:lower down stream. A See also:steam See also:tramway connects the town and port, and a branch See also:line connects with Entre Rios See also:railways at the station of Tala. The See also:principal See also:industry in this region is that of stock-raising, and there is a large exportation of See also:cattle, jerked See also:beef, hides, See also:tallow, mutton, See also:wool and See also:sheep-skins. See also:Wood and See also:charcoal are also exported to Buenos Aires. The town was founded in 1783.
