After holding chairs at See also:Kiel (1866), See also:Konigsberg (1873), and See also:Jena (1876), he was finally appointed See also:professor of See also:history at See also:Tubingen, where he died on the 2nd of See also:March 1887. He devoted himself to the study of Eastern See also:language and history in its pre-See also:Greek and Hellenistic periods and contributed largely to the literature of the subject.
