HEIDE , a See also:

town of See also:Germany, in the Prussian See also:province of See also:Schleswig-See also:Holstein, on a small See also:plateau which stands between the marshes and See also:moors bordering the See also:North See also:Sea, 35 M. N.N.W. of Gliickstadt, at the junction of the See also:railways See also:Elmshorn-Hvidding and See also:Neumunster-Tonning. Pop.(1905), 8758. It has an Evangelical and a See also:Roman See also:Catholic See also:church, a high-grade school, and See also:tobacco and See also:cigar manufactories and breweries. Heide in 1447 became the See also:capital of the Ditmarsh See also:peasant See also:republic, but on the 13th of See also:June 1559 it was the See also:scene of the See also:complete defeat of the peasant forces by the Danes.
