JENNET , a small See also:

Spanish See also:horse; the word is sometimes applied in See also:English to a See also:mule, the offspring of a she-See also:ass and a stallion. Jennet comes, through Fr. See also:genet, from Span. jinete, a See also:light horseman who rides d la gineta, explained as " with his legs tucked up." The name is taken to be a corruption of the Arabic See also:Zenata, a See also:Berber tribe famed for its See also:cavalry. English and See also:French transferred the word from the rider to his horse, a meaning which the word has only acquired in See also:Spain in See also:modern times.
