town (founded 1553) of See also:West See also:Siberia, in the See also:government of See also:Tobolsk, on the Siberian railway, 16o m. E. of See also:Chelyabinsk, and on the See also:left See also:bank of the Tobol, in a wealthy agricultural See also:district. Pop. (1897), 10,579. Owing to its position at the See also:terminus of See also:steam See also:navigation up the See also:river Tobol, it has become second only to See also:Tyumen as a commercial centre. It has a public library and a botanic See also:garden. There is a large See also:trade in See also:cattle with See also:Petropavlovsk, and considerable export of See also:grain, See also:tallow, See also:meat, hides, See also:butter, See also:game and See also:fish, there being three large fairs in the See also:year. In the vicinity are a See also:great number of prehistoric kurgans or See also:burial-mounds.
