LAUCHSTADT , a See also:

town of See also:Germany in the See also:province of Prussian See also:Saxony, on the Laucha, 6 m. N.W. of See also:Merseburg by the railway to Schafstadt. Pop. (1905) 2034. It contains an Evangelical See also:church, a See also:theatre, a hydropathic See also:establishment and several educational institutions, among which is an agricultural school affiliated to the university of See also:Halle. Its See also:industries include malting, See also:vinegar-making and See also:brewing. Lauchstadt was a popular watering-See also:place in the 18th See also:century, the See also:dukes of See also:Saxe-Merseburg often making it their summer See also:residence. From 1789 to 1811 the See also:Weimar See also:court theatrical See also:company gave performances here of the plays of See also:Schiller and See also:Goethe, an attraction which greatly contributed to the well-being of the town. See Maak, Das Goethetheater in Lauchstadt (Lauchstadt, 1905) ; and Nasemann, See also:Bad Lauchstadt (Halle, 1885).
