LESSE , one of the most romantic of the smaller See also:rivers of See also:Belgium. It rises at Ochamps in the See also:Ardennes, and flowing in a See also:north-See also:westerly course reaches the See also:Meuse at Anseremme, a few See also:miles above See also:Dinant. The See also:river is only 49 M. See also:long, but its meandering course may be judged by the fact that it is no more than 29 M. from Ochamps to Anseremme in a straight See also:line. There is a See also:good See also:deal of See also:pretty scenery along this river, as,for instance, atCiergnon, but the most striking See also:part of the valley is contained in the last 12 M. from Houyet to Anseremme. In this See also:section the river is confined between opposing walls of cliff ranging from 300 to 500 ft. above the See also:rivet. Here were discovered in the caves near Waizin the bones of prehistoric men, and other See also:evidence of the See also:primitive occupants of this globe at a See also:period practically beyond computation.
