LLANES , a seaport of See also:

northern See also:Spain, in the See also:province of See also:Oviedo, on the See also:river Carrocedo and the See also:Bay of See also:Biscay. Pop. (1900) 18,684. The streets are mostly narrow and irregular, and contain some curious old houses. The See also:principal buildings are a See also:fine See also:Gothic See also:church and an old Augustinian monastery, which has been converted into a school and meteorological station. In summer the fine See also:climate, scenery and See also:sea-bathing attract many visitors. Llanes is a second-class See also:port for See also:light-See also:draught vessels; but the entrance is narrow, and rather difficult in rough See also:weather. The See also:trade is chiefly in agricultural produce, See also:timber, See also:butter and See also:fish.
