MACOMER , a See also:

village of See also:Sardinia in the See also:province of Cagliari, from which it is 95 M. N.N.W. by See also:rail, and the same distance S.W. of Golfo degli Aranci. Pop. (19o1), 3488. It is situated 1890 ft. above See also:sea-level on the See also:southern ascent to the central See also:plateau (the Campeda) of this See also:part of Sardinia; and it is the junction of narrow-See also:gauge lines branching from the See also:main See also:line See also:east-wards to See also:Nuoro and westwards to See also:Bosa. The old See also:parish See also:church of S. Pantaleone has three See also:Roman mile-stones in front of it, belonging to the Roman high-road from See also:Carales to Turris Libisonis. The See also:modern high-road follows the See also:ancient. The See also:district, especially the Campeda, is well fitted for grazing and See also:horse and See also:cattle breeding, which is carried on to a consider-able extent. It is perhaps richer in nuraghi than any other part of Sardinia.
