MANSURA , the See also:

capital of the See also:province of Dakahlia, See also:Lower See also:Egypt, near the See also:west See also:side of See also:Lake Menzala, and on the See also:Cairo-See also:Damietta railway. Pop. (1907), 40,279. It See also:dates from 1221, and is famous as the See also:scene of the See also:battle of Mansura, fought on the 8th of See also:February 1250, between the crusaders commanded by the See also:king of See also:France, St See also:Louis, and the Egyptians. The battle was See also:drawn, but it led to the See also:retreat of the crusaders on Damietta, and to the surrender of St Louis. Mansura has several See also:cotton-ginning, cotton, See also:linen and See also:sail-See also:cloth factories.
