He graduated at the university at Gratz as a See also:doctor of See also:philosophy, and was for a See also:time See also:professor of philosophy there. In 1838 he went to See also:Vienna, where he took the degree of doctor of See also:law. He devoted himself, however, to the study of See also:Slavonic See also:languages, abandoned the law, and obtained a See also:post in the imperial library, where he remained from 1844 to 1862. In the former See also:year he published a noteworthy See also:review of See also:Bopp's See also:Comparative See also:Grammar, and this began a See also:long See also:series of See also:works of immense erudition which completely revolutionized the study of Slavonic languages. In 1849 Miklosich was appointed to the newly created See also:chair of Slavonic See also:philology at the university of Vienna, and he occupied it until 1886. He became a member of the See also:Academy of Vienna, which appointed him secretary of its See also:historical and philosophical See also:section, a member of the See also:council of public instruction and of the upper See also:house, and correspondent of the See also:French Academy of Inscription. His numerous writings See also:deal not only with the Slav languages, but with Rumanian, Albanian, See also:Greek, and the See also:language of the gypsies. Miklosich died on the 7th of See also:March 1891.
