NIENBURG ON THE See also:

WESER , a See also:town of See also:Germany, in the Prussian See also:province of See also:Hanover, situated on the Weser, 33 M. N.W. from Hanover by the railway to See also:Bremen. Pop. (1905) 9638. It has an Evangelical and a See also:Roman See also:Catholic See also:church, a classical school and an agricultural See also:college. Its See also:industries consist chiefly in See also:glass-blowing, distilling, See also:biscuit-making and the manufacture of See also:manures. The town is mentioned as See also:early as 1025. It was fortified in the 12th See also:century, obtained municipal rights in 1569, and passed in 1582 to the See also:house of See also:Luneburg. It was occupied by the imperialists from 1627 to 1634, and by the See also:French during the Seven Years' See also:War. The walls were dismantled by See also:order of See also:Napoleon I. in 1807. See See also:Gade, Geschichte der Stadt Nienburg an der Weser (1862).
