He studied See also:theology at See also:Turin, and in his twenty-first See also:year went to See also:Rome, where he joined the Society of Jesus. In 1816 he was sent as See also:professor of theology to See also:Orvieto, and in 1823 was appointed to a similar See also:post in the Collegium Romanum. From See also:Ferrara, where he was See also:rector of the Jesuit See also:College after 183o, he returned to his teaching See also:work in Rome, being made See also:head of his old college in 185o. He took a leading See also:part in the discussions which led up to the promulgation of the See also:dogma of the Immaculate Conception (1854), and 'n 1869 was prominent on the Ultramontane See also:side in the Vatican See also:Council. His numerous dogmatic See also:works are characteristic of orthodox See also:modern See also:Roman theology. They include Praelectiones theologicae (g vols., Rome, 1835 sqq.), Praelectiones theologicae in compendium redactae (4 vols., Rome, 1845), Il Hermesianismo (Rome, 1838), Il Protestantismo e la regola di fede (3 vols., 1853), De divinitate D. N. Jesu Christi (3 vols., Turin, 187o). He died on the 26th of See also:August 1876.
