PHILIP See also:CIPRIANI HAMBLEY (1792—1871) , See also:English musician, was See also:born in See also:London, the son of a See also:pianoforte teacher, and godson of a See also:sister of G. B. Cipriani, the painter. He was educated for the musical profession under See also:Attwood, See also:Callcott, See also:Crotch and See also:Woelfl; later at See also:Vienna, where he received encouragement from See also:Beethoven. In 1816 an See also:overture by him was per-formed at a Philharmonic See also:concert, and he began a distinguished career as a pianist. In 1822 he became a See also:professor, and in 1832 See also:principal (resigning in 1859) of the Royal See also:Academy of See also:Music; in186o an See also:exhibition was founded there in his See also:honour. Cipriani Potter composed many See also:works, now mostly forgotten, though important in their See also:day. He died on the 28th of See also:September 1871.
