RUBLE , a See also:province of central See also:Chile, bounded N. by See also:Linares, E. by the See also:Argentine See also:Republic, S. by See also:Concepcion and W. by Concepcion and See also:Maule. See also:Area, 3407 sq. m.; pop. (1895) 152,935. The province lies partly in the See also:great central valley of Chile, noted for its See also:fine See also:climate and fertility, and partly on the western slopes of the See also:Andes. The Itata See also:river, which forms the See also:southern boundary, and its See also:principal tributary, the Nubee, See also:form the drainage See also:system of the province. See also:Agriculture and grazing are the principal See also:industries. See also:Wheat is largely produced, and there are vineyards in some localities. Stock-raising is pursued chiefly in the See also:east, where the pastures are See also:rich and the See also:water See also:supply unfailing. The See also:state railway from See also:Santiago to the southern provinces passes through Nuble, from N.N.E. to S.S.W., and sends off a See also:branch from Bulnes W. to See also:Jan Tome on the See also:Bay of Concepcion. The See also:capital is Chillan, and the only other important See also:town is Bulnes, a railway junction and active commercial centre. The hot See also:baths of Chillan, in the eastern See also:part of the province on the slope of the See also:volcano of that name, about 7000 ft. above See also:sea level, are very popular in Chile.
