SABZEVAR , a See also:district of the See also:province of See also:Khorasan in See also:Persia, formerly called Baihak. It is situated between See also:Nishapur on the See also:east and See also:Shahrud-Bostam on the See also:west, and has a length 'of about 8o m. and a breadth of 5o; its See also:population is about 6o aoti and it pays to the See also:government a yearly See also:revenue of £8000. The district has many flourishing villages and much culti'vatlon'; it produces much See also:wool, excellent See also:cotton, some See also:silk, partly exported to See also:Russia, partly : manufactured into various stuffs in the district, and fruits, exported dried in large quantities: The export See also:trade is chiefly done by a few See also:Russian Armenians who reside in Sabzevar See also:town. SABZ•EVAR, the See also:capital of the district, is situated 150 M. E. of Shahrud and 65 m. W. of Nishapur, in 36° 12' N., 57° 39' E., at an See also:elevation' of 3100 ft. The population, which was 30,000 before the See also:famine in 1871, is now about 15,000. There are some See also:good caravanserais, a well-supplied See also:bazaar, three colleges, two large and See also:thirty small mosques, and See also:post and See also:telegraph offices.
