SAHYADRI , a See also:

mountain range of See also:India. The See also:term, which is See also:Sanskrit rather than See also:vernacular, is applied to the entire See also:system of the Western See also:GHATS (q.v.) from the See also:Tapti See also:river to Cape See also:Comorin, but more especially to that See also:part of the system in the Bombay See also:Presidency. In this restricted sense the Sahyadri hills begin in See also:Khandesh See also:district, and run S. as far as See also:Gao. In the territory of the See also:Nizam of See also:Hyderabad, the See also:cross range forming the See also:watershed between the river systems of the Tapti and the See also:Godavari, is locally known as Sahyadri Parbat.
