SCHWARTZE, TERESA (1852— ) , Dutch portrait painter, was See also:born at See also:Amsterdam, the daughter of Johan Georg Schwartze (1814—1874), from whom she received her first training, before studying for a See also:year under See also:Gabriel Max and See also:Franz von See also:Lenbach in See also:Munich. In 1879 she went to See also:Paris to continue her studies under See also:Jean Jacques See also:Henner. Her portraits are remarkable for excellent See also:character See also:drawing, breadth and vigour of handling and See also:rich quality of pigment. She is one of the few See also:women painters Who have been honoured by an invitation to contribute their own portraits to the See also:hall of the painters at the Uffizi See also:Gallery in See also:Florence. Some of her best pictures, notably a portrait of Piet J. See also:Joubert, and " Three Inmates of the Orphanage at Amsterdam," are at the Ryks Museum, and one entitled " The See also:Orphan " at the Boyman Museum in See also:Rotterdam.
