SESTRI LEVANTE (anc. See also:Segesta Tiguliorum) , a seaport of See also:Liguria, See also:Italy, in the See also:province of See also:Genoa, from which it is 282 m. distant by See also:rail, 33 ft. above See also:sea-level. Pop. (1901) 3034 (See also:town); 12,038 (See also:commune). It is both a summer and a See also:winter resort, with See also:fine views. See also:Part of the town is situated on a promontory (230 ft.) between two bays. The See also:ancient town was the See also:port of exportation of the See also:slate of the See also:district, for we hear of a See also:place called Tigulia or Tegulata on the See also:coast-road; but we know practically nothing of the See also:political See also:condition of the district in See also:Roman times.
