COAST . The name given to that See also:part of the coast of See also:West See also:Africa extending from the See also:river See also:Volta to the See also:Niger See also:delta; forming part of the See also:Guinea coast (see GUINEA). From the beginning of the 16th to the end of the 18th See also:century this region was a See also:principal resort of the Europeans engaged in the slave See also:trade.
