SPRINGER (Fr. In vaulting, however, where the See also:lower stone of the arch or See also:rib is laid in See also:horizontal courses, so as to See also:bond it well into the See also:wall, constituting a See also:system of construction known in See also:France as the tas-de-See also:charge, the springer may be considerably higher. The term is sometimes applied to the lowest stone of a gable.
