STARNBERG , a See also:

(19o5), 3257. It has an evangelical and a See also:Roman See also:Catholic See also:church, an old See also:castle (now See also:government offices) and a bathing See also:establishment. The Starnberger See (or Wurmsee) is a See also:lake with a length of 12 m., a breadth of 3 m., and covering 23 sq. m. Its greatest See also:depth is about 400 ft. The lake is girdled by hills, studded with attractive See also:villa residences, commanding beautiful and extensive views of the See also:Alps. On the Roseninsel, an See also:island in the lake, remains of lacustrine dwellings have been discovered. The See also:waters abound in See also:fish. In the summer steamboats ply, touching at all the villages lying on the shores. See Ule, Der Wiirmsee in Oberbayern (See also:Leipzig, 190,). See also:STAR-NOSED See also:MOLE (Condylura cristata), a See also:North See also:American See also:species, the single representative of its genus.

In burrowing habits it resembles the See also:

European mole, but is distinguished from all other members of the See also:family Talpidae by the presence of a See also:ring of tentacles See also:round the nostrils, probably serving as See also:organs of See also:touch.
