TRAMP , a vagrant, one who " tramps " or walks the roads begging from See also:

house to house or ostensibly looking for See also:work, but with no See also:home and habitually sleeping out or moving on from the casual See also:ward of one workhouse to that of another (see See also:VAGRANCY). The word is the shortened See also:form of " tramper," one who tramps or walks with heavy tread. The See also:term " tramp " is also used of a See also:cargo steamer not See also:running on a See also:regular See also:line but passing from See also:port to port where See also:freight may be picked up.
