She was the granddaughter of the Rev. See also:Moses Stuart, and the daughter of the Rev. See also:Austin Phelps (1820-189o) who became a See also:professor in the See also:Andover Theological See also:Seminary in 1848, and Elizabeth Stuart Phelps (1815-1852), who wrote Sunnyside (1851), a popular See also:book in its See also:day, and other See also:works. In 1848 she removed with her parents to Andover, where she attended private See also:schools. When she was in her teens she wrote See also:short stories for the Youth's See also:Companion, The See also:Atlantic Monthly and Harper's See also:Magazine. She wrote many juveniles, especially See also:Sunday-School books, such as the Tiny and the Gypsy See also:series. In 1868 appeared in The Atlantic Monthly her short See also:story, The Tenth of See also:January, a narrative of the falling and burning of a See also:cotton-See also:- MILL
