With Simon Gloucester was at the See also:battle of See also:Lewes in May 1264, when the king himself surrendered to him, and after this victory he was one of the three persons selected to nominate a See also:council. Soon, however, he quarrelled with Leicester. Leaving See also:London for his lands on the Welsh border he met See also:Prince See also:Edward, afterwards king Edward I., at See also:Ludlow, just after his See also:- ESCAPE (in mid. Gloucester took up the cudgels on behalf of the barons who had surrendered at See also:Kenilworth in See also:November and See also:December 1266, and after putting his demands before the king, secured See also:possession of London. This happened in See also:April 1267, but the earl quickly made his See also:peace with Henry III. and with Prince Edward, and, having evaded an See also:obligation to go on the Crusade, he helped to secure the peaceful See also:accession of Edward I. to the See also:throne in 1272.
