TURSHIZ , a See also:

district of the See also:province of See also:Khorasan in See also:Persia, lying E. of the See also:great See also:salt See also:desert. It has a See also:population of nearly 20,000 and pays a yearly See also:revenue of about £7000. It produces and exports See also:wool, See also:cotton, See also:silk and much dried See also:fruit, of the latter particularly raisins and Alu Bukhara, " See also:Bokhara prunes." The See also:chief See also:place and See also:capital of the district is Sultanabad, generally called Turshiz, like the district, situated 225 M. See also:south-See also:east by east from See also:Shahrud and Too m. south-See also:west from See also:Meshed, in 350 10' N. 58° 34' E., at an See also:elevation of 2200 ft. It is surrounded by a dilapidated See also:wall and has a population of about 8000.
