N. of See also:Bolton, on the Lancashire & See also:Yorkshire railway. Pop. (1901), 12,355. Its See also:modern growth is the result of the development of the See also:cotton See also:trade in its various branches; and there are large See also:stone quarries in the vicinity. There remains in the township a curious See also:building named Turton See also:Tower, dating principally from the 16th See also:century, and containing some See also:fine contemporary woodwork.
