USTARANA , a See also:

Pathan tribe who inhabit the See also:outer hills opposite the extreme See also:south portion of Dera See also:Ismail See also:Khan See also:district in the See also:North-See also:West Frontier See also:Province of See also:India. Originally the Ustaranas were entirely a See also:pastoral and trading tribe; but a See also:quarrel with their neighbours, the Musa Khel, put a stop to their See also:annual westward See also:immigration, and they were forced to take to See also:agriculture, and have since acquired a See also:good See also:deal of the See also:plain See also:country below the hills. Their territory includes only the eastern slopes of the Suliman mountains, the See also:crest of the range being held by the Musa Khel, Isots and Zmarais (see SULIMAN HILLS).' The Ustaranas are venturesome traders, carrying goods from See also:Kandahar as far as See also:Bengal. They are a See also:fine manly See also:race, quiet and well-behaved, and many of them enlist in the See also:Indian See also:army and See also:police.
