VALYEVO (sometimes written Valjevo or Valievo) , a See also:town of western See also:Servia, prettily situated on the See also:river Kolubara, in a well-wooded valley, 627 ft. above the See also:sea. Valyevo gives its name to the See also:department of which it is the See also:capital. It is a See also:garrison town, with streets lighted by See also:electricity, a high-school or gymnasium, a prefecture and a See also:court of first instance. In the neighbouring Medvenik mountains See also:lead-See also:mining and smelting are carried on by an See also:English See also:company; lead and See also:antimony being also worked at Podgora and other places in the same department. Besides being the centre of the See also:plum-growing and distilling See also:industries, Valyevo has a considerable See also:trade in See also:cattle, for which the pastures watered by the Kolubara are celebrated. Pcp (1900) about 6800.
