VEERE , a See also:

town in the See also:province of See also:Zeeland, See also:Holland, on the See also:island of Walcheren, 4 M. N.N.E. of See also:Middelburg, with which it is connected by See also:canal (1867–72). It contains several interesting architectural remains of the days of its former prosperity, many of its quaintly gabled old houses dating from the 16th See also:century. There is a See also:fine See also:Gothic See also:church dating from 1348, but subsequently in See also:part destroyed and used fore See also:secular purposes; the town See also:hall (1475) has a fine gable filled with See also:sculpture, and contains' some interesting antiquities.
