ANIME , an oleo-See also:

resin (said to be so called because in its natural See also:state it is infested with See also:insects) which is exuded from the See also:locust See also:tree, Hymenaea couma.ril, and other See also:species of Hymenaea growing in tropical See also:South See also:America. It is of a See also:pale See also:brown See also:colour, transparent, brittle, and in consequence of its agreeable odour is used for See also:fumigation and in See also:perfumery. Its specific gravity varies from 1.054 to 1.057. It melts readily over the See also:fire, and softens even with the See also:heat of the mouth; it is insoluble in See also:water, and nearly so in See also:cold See also:alcohol. It is allied to See also:copal in its nature and See also:appearance, and is much used by See also:varnish-makers. The name is also given to See also:Zanzibar copal (q.v.).
