The city is served by the See also:Atchison, See also:Topeka & See also:Santa Fe, the See also:Missouri Pacific, the St See also:Louis & See also:San Francisco, the Midland Valley and the Kansas See also:South-Western See also:railways. To the south is the Chilocco See also:Indian school (in See also:Key county, See also:Oklahoma), established by the U.S. See also:government in 1884. A See also:canal joining the Arkansas and Walnut rivers furnishes See also:good See also:water See also:power. The manufactories include See also:flour See also:mills, packing establishments, a creamery and a paint factory. The city is situated in the midst of a See also:rich agricultural, region and is a See also:supply centre for See also:southern Kansas and Oklahoma, with large jobbing interests. Arkansas City, first known as Creswell, was settled in 187o, was chartered as a city under its See also:present name in 1872 and was rechartered in 1880.
