N.W. of See also:Pittsburg. Pop. (189o) 9735; (1900) 10,054, of whom 1554 were See also:foreign-See also:born; (1910, See also:census, 12,191. The borough is served by the Pennsylvania and the Pittsburg & See also:Lake See also:Erie See also:railways. It is built for the most See also:part on a See also:plateau about 50 ft. above the river, hemmed in on either See also:side by hills that rise abruptly, especially on the W., to a height of more than 200 ft. Bituminous See also:coal, natural See also:gas and oil abound in the vicinity; the river provides excellent See also:water-See also:power; the borough is a manufacturing centre of considerable importance, its products including See also:iron and See also:steel See also:bridges, boilers, See also:steam drills, carriages, saws, files, axes, shovels, See also:wire netting, stoves, See also:glass-See also:ware, scales, chemicals, pottery, See also:cork, decorative See also:tile, bricks and typewriters. In 1905 the See also:city's factory products were valued at $4,907,536• See also:Geneva See also:College (Reformed Presbyterian, co-educational), established in 1849 at Northwood, See also:Logan county, Ohio, was removed in 188o to the borough of College See also:Hill (pop. in 1900, 899), r m. N. of Beaver Falls; it has a preparatory and a collegiate See also:department, departments of See also:music, See also:oratory and See also:art, and a See also:physical department, and in 1907—1908 had 13 instructors and 235 students. Beaver Falls was first settled in 1801; was laid out as a See also:town and named Brighton in 18o6; received its See also:present name a few years later; and in 1868 was incorporated as a borough.
