city and the See also:county-seat of Cache county, See also:Utah, U.S.A., on the Logan See also:river, about 70 M. N. of See also:Salt See also:Lake City, Pop. (1900) 5451 (1440 See also:foreign-See also:born); (191o) 7522. It is served by the See also:Oregon See also:Short See also:Line railroad. It lies at the mouth of Logan See also:Canon, about 4500 ft. above the See also:sea, and commands magnificent views of the Wasatch Mountains and the fertile Cache Valley. At Logan is a See also:temple of the Latter-See also:Day See also:Saints (or See also:Mormons), built in 1883, and the city is the seat of the Agricultural See also:College of Utah, of Brigham See also:Young College, and of New See also:Jersey See also:Academy (1878), erected by the See also:women. of the See also:Synod of New Jersey and managed by the Woman's See also:Board of See also:Home See also:Missions of the Presbyterian See also:Church. The Agricultural College was founded in 1888 and opened in 1890; an agricultural experiment station is connected with it and the institution comprises See also:schools of See also:agriculture, domesti :. See also:science and arts, See also:commerce, mechanic arts and See also:general science. Six experiment stations in different parts of the See also:state and a central experimental See also:farm near St See also:George, See also:Washington county, were in 1908 under the direction of the experiment station in Logan. Brigham Young College was endowed by Brigham Young in 1877 and was opened in 1878; it offers courses in the arts, See also:theology, See also:civil See also:engineering, See also:music, See also:physical culture, domestic science, See also:nurse training and See also:manual training. Logan has various manufactures, and is the See also:trade centre for a fertile farming region. The See also:municipality owns and operates its See also:water See also:works and its electric See also:lighting plant. Logan was settled in 1859 and first incorporated in 1866.
