He also became See also:rector and See also:president of the See also:senate of the royal university of Christiania. His observations on the igneous rocks of See also:south See also:Tirol compared with those of Christiania afford much See also:information oa the relations of the granitic and basic rocks. The subject of the differentiation of See also:rock-types in the See also:process of solidification as plutonic or volcanic rocks from a particular magma received much See also:attention from him. He dealt also with the Palaeozoic rocks of See also:Norway, and with the See also:late glacial and See also:post-glacial changes of level in the Christiania region. The honorary degree of Ph.D. was conferred upon him by the university of See also:Heidelberg and that of LL.D. by the university of See also:Glasgow. The See also:Murchison See also:medal of the Geological Society of See also:London was awarded to him in 1891.
