CASTLEMAINE , a See also:

town of See also:Talbot See also:county, See also:Victoria, See also:Australia, 78 m. by See also:rail N.N.W. of See also:Melbourne. Pop. (1901) 5704. The See also:gold-mines here were among the first discovered in the See also:colony, and dredging for gold is carried on in See also:Barker's and See also:Forrest creeks, at the junction of which the town stands. See also:Slate and flagstone are largely quarried in the See also:district, which also produces See also:wine and much See also:fruit, especially apples. Castlemaine has a reputation as a See also:health resort in cases of pulmonary complaints.
