His See also:jealousy of Macready resulted in the See also:Astor See also:Place See also:riot in 1849. In 1837 he had married See also:Catherine, daughter of See also:John See also:Sinclair, an English See also:singer, and his See also:divorce suit in 1852 was a cause celebre which hurt his reputation and soured his See also:temper. His last appearance was as See also:Richelieu in See also:Boston in 1871. He died on the 12th of See also:December 1872. He had amassed a large See also:fortune, much of which he See also:left by will to found a home for aged actors. See See also:Lawrence See also:Barrett's Edwin Forrest (Boston, 1881).
