CREIL , a See also:

town of See also:northern See also:France, in the See also:department of See also:Oise, 32 M. N. of See also:Paris on the Northern railway, on which it is an important junction. Pop. (1906) 9234. The town is situated on the Oise, on which it has a busy See also:port. The manufacture of machinery, heavy See also:iron goods and nails, and See also:copper and iron See also:founding, are important See also:industries, and there are important metallurgical and See also:engineering See also:works at Montataire, about 2 M. distant; bricks and tiles and See also:glass are also manufactured, and the Northern railway has workshops here. The See also:church (12th to 15th centuries) is in the See also:Gothic See also:style. There are some traces of a See also:castle in which See also:Charles VI. resided during the See also:period of his madness. Creil played a See also:part of some importance in the See also:wars of the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries.
