ELLORE , a See also:

town of See also:British See also:India, in the See also:Kistna See also:district of See also:Madras, on the See also:East See also:Coast railway, 303 M. from Madras. Pop. (1901) 33,521. The two See also:canal systems of the See also:Godavari and the Kistna deltas meet here. There are manufactures of See also:cotton and See also:saltpetre, and an important See also:Church of See also:England high school. Ellore was formerly a military station, and the See also:capital of the See also:Northern Circars. At Pedda Vegi to the See also:north of it are extensive ruins, which are believed to be remains of the Buddhist See also:kingdom of Vengi. From these the Mahommedans, after their See also:conquest of the district in 1470, obtained material for See also:building a fort at Ellore.
