GIRNAR , a sacred See also:

hill in Western See also:India, in the See also:peninsula of See also:Kathiawar, 10 m. E. of See also:Junagarh See also:town. It consists of five peaks, rising about 3500 ft. above the See also:sea, on which are numerous old Jain temples, much frequented by pilgrims. At the See also:foot of the hill is a See also:rock, with an inscription of See also:Asoka (2nd See also:century B.c.), and also two other See also:inscriptions (dated 150 and 455 A.D.) of See also:great See also:historical importance.
