GLAUCHAU , a See also:

town of See also:Germany, in the See also:kingdom of See also:Saxony, on the right See also:bank of the See also:Mulde, 7 M. N. of See also:Zwickau and 17 W. of See also:Chemnitz by See also:rail. Pop. (1875) 21,743; (1905) 24,556. It has important manufactures of woollen and See also:half-woollen goods, in regard to which it occupies a high position in Germany. There are also dye-See also:works, See also:print-works, and manufactories of See also:paper, See also:linen, See also:thread and machinery. Glauchau possesses a high grade school, elementary See also:schools, a See also:weaving school, an orphanage and an infirmary. Some portions of the extensive old See also:castle date from the 12th See also:century, and the Gottesacker See also:church contains interesting antiquarian See also:relics. Glauchau was founded by a See also:colony of See also:Sorbs and See also:Wends, and belonged to the lords of Schonburg as See also:early as the 12th century. See R.
